Dr Katie Platts
Brighton and Sussex Medical School
Hello! I’m Doctor Katie Platts. I qualified as a GP in 2016 having spent five years at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. I feel so proud to be part of this new partnership and am excited to be able to offer our patients high quality care in our wonderful new surgery. My favourite part of general practice is the opportunity to get to know my patients and their families well, looking after them through every stage of life. Teaching is a passion of mine, and we welcome students and junior doctors into the surgery in order to help shape the careers of tomorrow’s doctors. I teach 4th year medical students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School. We also offer four month placements for junior doctors in their foundation years.
In my spare time I love to read and learn all about etymology. Did you know that the origin of the word tragus (a part of the ear) comes from the Greek word for goat? Apparently, hair growing from this part of the ear was thought to resemble a goat’s beard! When I’m not reading about Greek goats you will find me singing in choirs, enjoying board games, and walking my little dog, Bruce, on the beach.
